My Self Portrait

My Self Portrait

I decided to try painting myself when I heard about the Me, Myselfie & I Exhibit here in Henderson. It was a challenge, but it was so gratifying when the work began to develop into a true likeness. Maybe one of my children will want it one day…or grandchildren!

Frozen

Frozen

11″ x 14″ Oil on Linen Board
Earlier in February we had an ice storm that left the trees with a coat of ice. I went outside in subzero weather with my camera and took several pictures looking down my street. The sun shining through the clouds created a beautiful winter scape. I darkened the values of the clouds
and tree line in order to capture the drama of the sun shining through the clouds and reflecting
on the snow and the icy tree limbs.

“Pear”sistent

I started this painting in Chris Thomas’ workshop but fell far short of finishing it. It has sat in my studio for about 5 weeks and this week I decided to put my fear aside and finish it. I’m happy that I persisted, hence the name.

Redemption

This painting is my interpretation of the parable of the prodigal son. I believe this story is about forgiveness, and my goal was to tell it in a simple but powerful way.
